Marc Newson has become renowned for his fantastic, but technically scrupulous approach to design. The Ford Company gave the designer a complicated task to develop the design of a concept car. After poring over piles of car books and magazines and peering at cars passing by in the street, Marc Newson created the Ford 021C that was presented at Tokyo Motor Show in 1999.

The car featured a lot of innovative ideas in the interior, the part of the car that is often ignored by other designers. The seats were attached to pedestals; the dashboard could be compared to a jewel in its detailing. When the light was turned on, the ceiling was lit up by an electro-luminescent film. Newson opened a studio in Paris in 1991, and received orders from famous European manufacturers. In association with Oliver Ike, he founded a joint venture in 1994 in Switzerland, the Ikepod Watch Company, to manufacture mechanical chronometers in limited numbers featuring his own designs.

Newson's designs have become part of many important permanent museum collections housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, London's Design Museum, and the Vitra Design Museum.
